Civil War

Causes:

Find and write about the top five causes of the Civil War.  Bring your thoughts to class for discussion.

Abolition:

Watch: http://www.history.com/topics/black-history/abolitionist-movement
As we discussed in class, the Underground Railroad began well before the Civil War began and Abolitionists began to rise up for change.  Research at least one of the following Abolitionists:
(You can search these leaders on the same history.com website)
William Lloyd Garrison
Frederick Douglass
Harriet Beecher Stowe
OR any Miscellaneous Abolitionist about whom you can educate the class :)

BONUS:  Who regularly housed more than 60 runaway slaves per month in his home?  And who did this person inspire to become a staunch abolitionist?

Quotes:

"When you get into a tight place and everything goes against you, till it seems as though you could not hang on a minute longer, never give up then, for that is just the place and time that the tide will turn."  -Harriet Beecher Stowe

"With reasonable men, I will reason; with humane men I will plead; but to tyrants I will give no quarter, nor waste arguments where they will certainly be lost."  -William Lloyd Garrison

With which of these quotes do you agree more wholeheartedly?  Why?
